The True Trials and Tribulations of Salem ( CLOSED )

A diary entry from Rosalina, Head of Mortum House located just outside of Salem, Massachusetts.

    12th March 1692

Things are beginning to escalate quickly since the Hunters arrived in Salem. They are smarter then any I have encountered before. They came disguised as preacher men, men of the cloth. Deceit and lies spilled from their tongues as they spread rumors of voodoo and witchcraft amongst the women. Such foolery. Yet the villagers believed them, slowly but surely turning on each other, playing right into their hands.

Now our people are in disarray, the villages are being protected and the so called ' witches ' are being left as bait for ones who are hungry enough or idiotic enough to bite. However, those older and wiser have begun to band together. I, myself have taken in a half a dozen lodgers, some friends, some unknown but only looking for a chance of survival.  allow them to say so long as they follow my rules. It has proven to be beneficial as we tend to outnumber the number of hunters that are on patrol. But it seems for everyone one we kill more come and the belief in witches only increases as they claim the the demons that possess those poor souls killed them during exorcism.

With each new day I grow more and more concerned for our kind. Our numbers are dwindling and others are resorting to turning the young girls they find just to give the hunters easier kills. It's barbaric. When will these hunters realise they are creating far more devastation then our kind ever could. Cursed be these vampire Hunters.

    { A description of Salem & Mortum Manor }

Mortum Manor is situated a couple of miles outside of Salem Massachusetts. It is a traditional stone house comprised of small dimly lit rooms. There are six moderate bedrooms upstairs including Rosalina's bedroom and study.

Downstairs comprises of a larger living are with a fireplace and soft furnishings. There's a small kitchen towards the back of the house that is rarely used and is mostly for storage purposes. There are also smaller rooms scattered around used for storage of books and other valuables that have been collected over time. As well as a couple of basements in case of an emergency.

Salem Town is a small fishing village with a majority of the towns revenue coming from the waterfront. Sights in the town are the original Great House occupied by the Governor, the Massachusetts Bay Company operating from the Naumkeag River and of course the soon to be infamous court house where the witch trials are currently taking place.

It is a newly formed town and so it is young. The town is full of basic traders and certain amenities such as a school and a doctor. There are still some native American outposts scattered around Salem but most were destroyed when the American settlements came.

Now the town is home to a group of priests who can be found in the homes of the ordinary people who in their good Christian nature have opened their homes to them. Unaware of the priests true intentions the towns folk go on living their daily lives, fearful of the supposed demons that are around them unaware of the true threat that lives among them.

A cool crisp breeze blew across the sleepy town of Salem. Most residents were asleep in their beds while others stayed awake in fear for their families. They feared the demons that lived among them and possessed the ones they cared about. Grace Cooper was one of those poor condemned souls.

Her body was tied down to a large wooden pole just outside of the town boundaries along with two other young girls. Her body was bruised and beaten from where she had been stoned during her trial. Her long brown hair was straggly and damp from where she had been dunked in the river and almost drowned. But because she had survived this ordeals, she was deemed a witch by her friends and the priests who had come to stay and none had hesitated to tie her up to be burned at the stake.

That was hours ago now. Her body was ice cold as it hung limply from the pole, the ropes that binding her the only things keeping her upright. One of the others girls near her had been ravaged, a huge chunk of her neck had been torn from her flesh and her dead eyes stared into the darkness. Grace's on the other hand had two perfectly round puncture marks in her neck. What happened to the third girl was unknown as that's when the Hunters intervened, slaughtering the attackers of the defenseless girls but not to protect them. Their objective was to kill and nothing else and their task was complete as they headed back towards the town. They laughed at how well their plan was working, not only could they kill suspected witches but using them as bait for vampires was an ingenues turn of events and now they could remove the Earth of both demons.

    --------------------------------------
Rosalina was writing in her journal when the clock behind her chimed midnight. She careful placed the quill back and shut her diary placing it in a locked drawer. She valued her privacy especially when her home had become a sort of half way house. She did not begrudge those who took refuge in her home but privacy was becoming somewhat of a luxury of late.

She left her desk and moved towards the closet and took a black lace shawl from within it. She left her room, locking that door also as she descended silently down the stairs. " Anyone who wishes to eat tonight should follow me now. " she called out knowing her guests would hear her. Their numbers had dwindled of late as the hunters numbers grew. More and more of their kind was being hunted and what was that initially to be of no concern was now becoming a serious threat.

She knew for certain that Dominick would be accompanying her as he had an insatiable appetite and never passed up an occasion to go to feed. She stepped outside of the manor walls and there was a smell of death in the air and it made her frown. These witch trials were taking more and more lives everyday and the smell of blood even in the air was potent but then that's how they lured the young vampires in. " Don't keep a lady waiting Dominick. " she called out to him as he rushed for no one. Wrapping the shawl around her arms she hoped that no blood would be needlessly wasted tonight.

They came in the dead of night while the family slept. Dozens of them all dressed in black from head to foot. The only part of them available for sight were their eyes which were so filled with hatred to look upon them would make you recoil.
They blocked off the windows and the doors, words such as 'abominations', ' monsters', 'Witches' dripping poisonously from their tongues as they carried out ferocious attacks, firstly on the men who frantically tried to protect the woman.
They were to few and the attackers so many, father and two sons soon lay dead upon the floor of their home each one having died painfully.

The woman were attacked in other ways, defiled before being beaten and asked to admit themselves to be witches, Leesie sobbed clinging to her mother as she tried to fight them away but eventually it became to much her mother pushing her away, using her 'magic' to push the mortals away long enough for Leesie to flee. Her mother's words 'Flee child' ringing loud through her mind. She tried to push back her mothers powers to get to her but she was to underdeveloped and soon had no option but to run.

Fleeing into the night in nought but a white nightdress which by now was muddied and covered in blood, ripped in multiple places Leesie ran the screams of her mother dying accompanying her into the darkness of the forest.

She ran sobbing and exhausted for hours, blood trailing behind her from her various wounds as her face blackened in bruises her neck becoming purple, her breathing ragged and fractured she pushed on her heart beat loud in her ears. She wouldn't stop until she found somewhere safe like her mother had wanted for her.

Finding a new town she ran silently through it until her foot snagged upon a rope, toppling head first into the mud she qucikly rolled onto her back having to instantly shove her hand over her mouth to avoid screaming at the sight which she beheld. Above her were women hanging on the stake. It was happening here to, she fought the urge to vomit as fear again coursed through her.

She had to concentrate her powers tingling informing her one was still alive, climbing onto her hands and knees she crawled over frantically the tears flowing again until she reached out her fingers wrapping around the woman's ankle shaking it.
“Hello...hello can you hear me?” she whispered her voice high in terror.

The witch hunts had been going on for some time now and Lysander had managed to keep his beloved safe, keeping out of the main town and away from prying eyes.
Mariah had suffered watching her entire family be burnt on the stakes after being ravaged by vampires, Lysander had stopped her from running to them, they could not be saved.

For days they had been hiding among the hills, planning their escape to safety, if there were any to be found.
Lysander had not fed in those days, keeping Mariah in his sights and safety but as his hunger grew, so did the craving for Mariah's own witches blood.
The next day Lysander's thirst for blood nearly overtook him and he attacked his beloved but stopped after piercing the skin at her luscious neck.

After that he made her promise to stay put and he went off to hunt, to fed and stem his craving so he would not put Mariah in any more danger than she was already.

As he hunted, so did the humans. They spread their search to the hills and came across an abandoned shelter.
Upon entering they found Mariah and assaulted and repeatedly raped her, her limited powers no match for the many that where there.
She was dragged away and back to the town where she was taunted and beaten until she was dragged kicking and screaming to a stake, her fate to be dealt this hour.
She cried out for Lysander, her tears falling fiercely down her pale and blood stained cheeks.
Turning she saw many stakes lined up, some with other crying witches, some limp and already dead.
Her fear slowly turned to acceptance as she saw a group of vampires come towards them.

Lysander had his fill and made the journey back to Mariah quickly, he had left her no more than two hours but when he returned fear gripped his soul, the smell of blood, her blood in the air and his eyes widened as the realisation hit him with full force, ''Mariah!'' He shouted and ran at his full speed, honing in on her scent.
He reached the town in a minute and stopped in his tracks in front of a long line of stakes.
There was at least one alive and a girl in a nightdress at her feet but Lysander focused only on the stake standing next to them.

He walked to it, his eyes never moving from the blood ridden pale face and lifeless eyes.
He dropped to his knees in front of her, his Mariah, tears falling from his eyes as he sobbed at her feet. Emotions that had not escaped him since he was a human.
He screamed a fearsome anger filled scream that would penetrate the air for miles.

After a moment he took a deep breath and stood up leaning his head against Mariah's own, cradling her cheek and hair in his shaking hands.
He kissed her lips and closed her eyes with a small movement of each thumb.
Closing his eyes he moved his arms around her and ripped the stake apart with immense ease before lifting her up in his arms, cold hard eyes turned to the other two alive before he walked away and laid her down at the base of a tree, digging her a grave within seconds and burying his beloved.

He knelt down beside it for some time before his attention was distracted by two vampires heading towards the two left alive.
A snarl escaped his lips and he was on them within a second, instantly he ripped the throat out of one with a growl and snatched up the other, lifting him and slamming him down against his knee, breaking his back before he swiftly broke his neck.

It did not take long for Rosalina and Dominick to reach the outskirts of the town and both could tell that there was something wrong. The top of the spikes could be seen as they cleared the trees and Rosalina gave a look to Dominick. This was going to be an adventurous night.

Rosalina moved forward as she could hear what seemed to be a scuffle taking place but could only pick up the heartbeats of two. One faint, very faint. The other stronger at least. She approached the stakes with an air of caution knowing that the two heartbeats could very well belong to that of Hunters.

Approaching the scene she looked towards the young girl on the ground and the one on the stake. She shook her head in disgust at what these hunters were doing to these young women. The girl who must of been accused of a witch barely looked like a woman at all.

Her attention was then drawn to the vampire who had clearly just ended the lives of the now dead vampires on the ground. She called them Scavengers, young vampires who came to pick off what was left of the poor souls left in the dark to die before being burned. She turned to Dominick and nodded at him to take care of the male while she would deal with the females.

    ------------------

Dominick caught the look from Rosalina as they walked on the scene. It was one hell of a mess. Bigger then usual but that was no concern of his. He nodded back at Rosalina knowing better then to question Rosalina especially on matters like this. He pulled out a cigerette and lit it up as he left Rosalina's side.

He stepped over the body of the first vampire before making his way over to the vampire who seemed distraught. " Why not leave the killing to the vampire hunters, brother. " he said holding a cigarette as if it would help. For all he knew he was after the two young girls and he knew that she would have a problem with that. Rosalina never fed from children.

He would stay near the guy in case he did decide to jump either Rosalina or the girls until Rosalina decided what she wanted to do about the young girls, one who smelt different from the other, would no doubt be coming back with them but the other was near dead. He didn't know what would become of her.

    ------------------

Rosalina walked towards the young girls and smiled down at the one on the ground. She looked at the young girl who was tied to the stake. She was young, to young to have faced such a trauma. Rosalina affectionately pulled the girls hair back and spotted the puncture marks on her neck. Placing the back of her hand against the girls cheek, she was icy cold and there was barely any breathe left in the girl and she frowned. " Far to young. " she muttered to herself before addressing the young girl on the ground.

" Hush now child it will be alright. " she said crouching down to other the frightened girl a hand up. She too was young and had clearly been through an ordeal. Rosalina could smell the difference within the girl but made no comment on the fact she was a witch. " I'm afraid your friend can't hear you. She's in a very delicate state right now. " she said looking back at her. Rosalina knew there was no life to be left for that girl. They were to late to save the girls humanity but that did not mean she was completely lost to them. " Why don't you help me get her down from that awful thing? " she asked the girl hoping to get her to calm down and occupy her mind.

“Please..please!” she pleaded large tears making pathways through the dirt on her face. By nature she knew she couldn't leave the girl there if she thought there could be any hope at all, she continued to shake the girls leg but got nothing from her. She knew in her state she wouldn't have been able to carry her and for the second time in her life, the first having been when the men came she wished she had been allowed to embrace the power that was her right. God how she wished she could have fought them and she could have used it to help her move the girl.

She was about to pull herself up, to look for some way to free the girl when she heard another, he wasn't human, not even like her she felt cold wash over her flesh and she knew him to be one of the undead, for the second time she clamped her hand over her mouth, he had seen her but she didn't want to attract any more of his attention hoping he would just pass the two of them by.

He went to another stake as Leesie cowards beside the woman she had gone to, his scream making her jump with a small cry of fear as she recoiled further only to realize to her total horror there were more creatures coming. The male seemed to realize as she did and he acted with swift fury towards them killing them brutally.
Screaming into her hand Leesie slammed her eyes closed not accustomed to seeing such sights such as those she had seen tonight, it was one long never ending nightmare, her breathing elevated and she fought to control it as panic gripped her in a paralysed fear.

So consumed with her attack of over whelmed panic and shock she didn't notice as more creatures joined them a woman beside her before she registered it, she jumped back hitting against the woman on the stake her arms recoiling around herself weakly as a hand was extended down to her,
her small frame shook her head spinning as her panic rose further. “No..no leave us..don't hurt us” she whispers unable to muster a louder demand.

Lysander ignored the fear of the girl in the nightdress, he cared little for anything at that point other than the loss of Mariah.
Seconds after the vampire lay dead on his knee, two more entered the scene and Lysander bared his teeth at them a moment, allowing them to fall back under his gums as he realised they were not there to harm the others.

He watched the woman go over to the girl and try to comfort her somewhat, turning his silver eyes to the male next to him, Lysander threw the body from him and it landed a few feet away.
He did not say a word to the male but he did accept his cigarette with a nod and lit it, taking it back he found very little comfort in it but it was more of a habit than anything else.
He looked at him a moment before walking away and back to Mariah, he knew he would most likely stay close to him on the women's orders but Lysander did not care.

He went to Mariah's grave and removed a necklace from around his neck, burying it at the base of the tree trunk, the head of the grave, ''Être en paix mon amour.'' (Be at peace my love) He whispered before placing a hand on the soil a moment.
With a sigh he stood upright once more and turned his head towards the woman, the girl was clearly frightened and Lysander could only guess what horrors she had seen, he was curious of her and curious of the others but for the moment he just stood not knowing what to do with himself.

Rosalina frowned at the young girl as she was completely consumed by panic. Her heart beat was erratic and Rosalina honestly thought that the poor thing might frighten herself to death. She stood up and took a more authoritative stance with the girl.

" Listen here child I mean you no harm. " she said honestly in a motherly tone. These children needed guidance right now not a friend. " Now I will help you if you let me but you need to calm down. " she said taking a step back from the girl to give her some space to breathe and that's when she heard the young girl's heartbeat finally stopped on the stake.

She turned back to the girl on the stake who was now presumably dead and began untying her ropes. The girl needed to be brought back to Mortum Manor to finish the change or she would truly die. " Dominick come help me with the child. " she called out ignoring the men up until this point. Both of these girls needed to be taken away from this place and brought to safety before the hunters reappeared or worse the villagers.

    -------------------

The guy seemed to be the quiet type as he accepted one of his cigarettes and they both smoked together. Dominick was trying to figure out what had the guy so wound up that he would kill his own kind. He kept a few feet from teh guy giving him some space as he walked towards a tree with a necklace and whispered it in french.

He rolled his eyes at the emotion of it all. He wondered what on Earth the guy was doing falling for a human in the first place even if she was a witch. They were so fleeting and fragile. He should of stuck to his own kind.

He turned his head to look towards Rosalina as she called him. He looked at the girl who had been tied to the stake and the fact that she was now dead hardly registered with him really, it was no concern of his. He was just fed up of Rosalina taking in all these strays.

" Again? " he asked staring at the young girl who Rosalina was beginning to free from the ropes. He took another drag of his cigarette and then tossed it aside as walked towards Rosalina. " You really need to stop doing this Rosa, it's not a creche you are running. " he said as he was now the other side of the stake ready to help catch the body.

Putting her head on her knees which she had drawn up to her stomach she wrapped her arms around it like some how it could shut out what was happening around her, she could feel the build up of energy in her own chest it felt like it was going to explode her into a million pieces she simply couldn't cope with what had happened to her and the things she had seen, she could not have ever imagined such horror.

With every blink she saw her family dead, she heard their cries and her mothers screams and now she had been surrounded by vampires, the life line she felt with the one she had clung to then ended sending her into a silent hysteria her head spinning as her lips paled from lack of oxygen as her panting didn't allow her enough. “Oh God oh God oh God” she muttered to herself she had so wanted to help the girl and she couldn't now she was alone with vampires.

The woman was talking to her, it reminded her of her mother when she tried to teach her things and it only made her cry all the more but she managed to look up only cowering smaller when the larger male vampire came over. She was more afraid of him, his eyes held nothing but loathing for them.
“She's dead..... why.. are you going to kill me?” she asked her eyes growing heavier by the second as she started to lose her battle for consciousness her panic and injuries advancing on her.
“Why has this happened..?” she moved her head back to her knees suddenly becoming aware of its weight upon her neck. “Let God..or the devil take me”

Lysander watched on as the male went over to begrudgingly help the woman, she was clearly the one in charge and he wondered what he meant, perhaps the woman, Rosa, took in waifs and strays, by the sound of it she did.

Lysander took more drags of his smoke and stepped towards the group, the woman who was previously on the stake was now dead but perhaps she was undergoing the change, Lysander did not know.
His eyes fell on the scared girl, she was so young, too young to go through such pain and hardships.

He approached slowly, the other male just before him, ''Neither will help you now, child.'' He said to the girl but his head quickly titled his sharp sense picking up on the sounds of incoming hounds and horses, ''You need to leave, all of you.'' He said before ramming into Dominick and pushing him out of the way with force, he turned in the blink of the eye and caught a silver blade which was aimed for Dominick's head, ''Hunters.'' He said with a slight snarl, as they came into view from over the hill.

Rosalina continued to untie the the rope from around the girls body. She gave the unknown male vampire a glare as he is did not do anything to help the poor witch. She was a nervous wreck already and didn't need anymore reason to be frightened.

That being said as she got the last of the rope off of Grace's body, Lysander pushed Dominick out of the way and so he could not catch the limp body. Rosalina easily compensated as she caught the young girl with ease. She pushed her matted hair out of the girls face and smiled down at her. She couldn't help but think that the girl looked like her own daughter all those years ago.

As the male mentioned Rosalina she stayed perfectly calm seemingly unworried. She moved towards the little witch. She bent down and gently placed the body of Grace beside her. " Do not fret little witch, you will not be harmed. " she smiled as she unwrapped the shawl and offered it to the young girl for warmth and comfort if she should take it.

Leaving the two girls she moved towards the Dominick and the male. " Looks like it's to take the trash out. " she looked to Dominick. She knew that this would get messy with him around and the least she could do was keep an eye on him in case he got himself killed.

She pulled a long handgun from a concealed pocket in her skirt that was already loaded with gun powder and pellet. She cocked the gun and then fired it towards the hunters, knocking one off of his horse and she smirked as she began to reload the gun.

    --------------------------------------

Dominick hadn't expected the guy to shove him and when he did his instinct was to attack. But a mere second later he saw the blade fly through the air where his head had been. He creaked his neck and nodded at the guy as a sort of thanks. Apologies and thank you's weren't in his vocabulary. " Leave? But dinner just arrived. " he smiled almost giddy at the thought.

He thrived in conflict and he hadn't had a good feed in so long. Rosalina had fired a shot and he smiled. The hunters were always surprised when they saw them with guns. They were a hobby of Rosa's but he preferred a much more hands on approach.

He had known Rosa for many years and suspected she would stay near the defenseless girls so he decided he would take the more offensive approach. He turned to Lysander and smiled. " Wanna have some fun? " he asked as he took off in a run towards the hunters.

Things just seemed to be getting worse and worse, she could hear them cutting down the dead woman and her body drop to be caught. Horses hooves sounded against the ground and she recoiled the body being placed next to her as the vampire woman gave her a shawl for warmth, It did nothing to warm her but it kept the gale away as she shivered uncontrollably.

As the fighting started she lifted her head feeling something compel her to do so. What she saw caused a scream to rise within her throat her frail body jumping up onto its feet as she pointed to a large man at the back of the hunting group.
His eyes were as dark as coal, his teeth as yellow as the sun and his skin had been smeared in blood. The blood of her family, she fought back the images of him hovering over her as he tore away her innocence, then the image of his hands all over her mother but she couldn't.

A vibrating deep inside of her caused her to stumble backwards bats suddenly bursting from the surrounding trees at her subconscious demand, flying in such numbers they condensed into a thick black cloud they converged on the man, biting away as his screams and gurgles filled her mind until they left nothing but bone, returning to the trees from whence they came.

Realizing she had some how caused the bats to come made her skin pale in comparison her panic consuming her until she could no longer stand her legs giving up sending her into the mud again on her buttocks, curling into herself she clung to her knees her breathing elevated to the point in which she eventually passed out.

Lysander looked from Rosa to Dominick and his head followed the bullet as it went towards the hunters. He shrugged and was there and then pretty sure that she could handle herself and protect the innocent ones.

He nodded in return to Dominick and then a small smile crossed his lips and he turned to follow him and to embark on some blood fun.
He stopped though and turned to look at the girl, she seemed to be having some sort of fit towards the hunters and his head moved from her to the swarm of bats encasing the now screaming man in the group of hunters.
He watched with curiosity as he crumpled to bone and the bats went away, so she was a witch like Mariah to, and she was young which meant she had a lot to learn but she seemed as though she had the potential to be one hell of a powerful witch.

Lysander nodded as he looked at her, appreciation but it wasn't meant for her to see, just and expression of his surprise, she was not as pitiful as she seemed.
He glanced to Rosa and again nodded to her before following Dominick once more.

Lysander moved at a quick run and rounded up the side of a tree before jumping through the air and slicing his blade into one of the hunters collar bones, their body dropping like a sack to the ground.
''Yes, let us have some fun.'' He said with a calm tone and a smile to Dominick, who seemed to like the thrill of spilling blood.

Lysander stood and turned to face the remaining hunters, a few clearly scared to death by the witch's powers and their death that was to befall them this night.
He would not let any of them escape, he was too pissed off to allow that to happen and when one began to gallop away on his horse Lysander was quick to jump him.

He landed on the back of the horse and forcefully exposed the rider's neck, sinking his fangs in and fulfilling his hunger.

Having fired what she would call a warning shot she took out a small pouch and began reloading the gun. Domnick appeared as eager as ever to face the hunters and get his hands dirty. She glanced over at the two girls as the little witch began to scream. She wondered what on Earth could be bothering her so much.

She fired her second shot and hit one of the hunters on horseback causing the horse to rear back in fear and gallop away from the rest of the hunters. It was then she saw the bats come from the trees and attack one of the larger men on horseback. She looked at the young girl as her magic consumed her. Rosa shook her head and put the gun away. There were only a few hunters left, Dominick and his new found friend should be able to take care of them.

Once the attack had stopped, she collapsed and curled up once again. Rosalina turned from the hunters and the males and went over to the two girls. The young witch had collapsed and it was probably for the best. She needed rest. Rosa scooped up the two girls into her arms and stood up with ease. She called out to Dominick before she left to bring the girls to safety. " I am taking them home Nick, bring your friend back if you wish. " she added knowing Dominick wouldn't otherwise invite him and headed towards the woods and to safety.

    -------------------------------

Dominick sprinted forward at a speed the hunters couldn't comprehend. He avoided the first one knowing Rosalina wouldn't leave it at just one shot. He headed right and ploughed into the side of a horse. He could of easily landed on top but he did like to torment his food.

The rider was flung to the ground and his legs broken beneath him as the horse pinned him down. Dominick moved into a walk and stood atop the body ot the horse and looked down at the cowering hunter. It was then he saw the strange black mass of bats. He scowled a little having a clear disliking for the creatures.

Once the bats rid the man of everything but his bones he tutted. "Such a waste. " he smirked down at the now crying man who was terrified by what he saw. Feeling sufficient fear within the man, he plunged towards the mans neck, gorging himself on the mans blood.

The last hunter scared and fearing for his life turned his horse to flee. Dominic spotted him and smirked. " Let's bring him back alive. Rosa will be hungry and the new can break her fangs in. " he laughed knowing that the experience would be less then pleasant essentially turning the man into a vampire pin cushion.

Lysander turned to face Dominick as the last hunter began to flee, he smiled and nodded, ''Very well.'' He said as he threw his victim to the side and off of the fine horse.
He turned and trotted after the fleeing and stood on his horse's back as he came up beside him, ''Good evening.'' He said, his fangs bared before he jumped from his horse to the next and grabbed the man around the shoulder, he broke both his arms and chucked him to where Dominick stood.

Lysander turned on the horse, it was a beautiful grey with black eyes, and went back to Dominick. Looking over he saw Rosa leaving with the two and he let a small smile escape him as his silver eyes looked down at the whimpering hunter at Dominick's feet.
Dominick's words answered Lysander's question as to whether the other girl was dead or just changing, ''Where is the lady taking them?'' He asked out of curiosity and wondered what fate had in store for them.

The horse beneath him breathed heavily but calmed at Lysander's small stroke of his main. Lysander decided there and then that he was going to keep this horse and turn it later.

Dominick stood up and took a handkerchief from his pocket and dabbed his mouth as he watched Lysander in action. He may of been a fool but he appreciated his style. Life could be so boring after the fist half a century it was moments like this he thrived. Nothing made him feel more alive then death.

He laughed as the now broken man was tossed at his feet. He howled in pain but that only added to his enjoyment. He placed his foot on the mans chest to hold him down to the ground while the guy came with his horse.

" Lady? You should of seen her a half a century ago, that ain't no lady. You can call her Rosalina. " he laughed at the trouble they had got into in the past. " She is taking them to Mortum Manor, her house. She likes to think of herself as a sort of humanitarian. " he said grabbing the hunter by the scruff of his neck and holding him up.

He walked over to the stake that held Grace and took some of the rope using it to tie around his body. " Let's get him on the horse and head back before she thinks I'm dead and gives one the kids my bed. Name's Dominick by the way you can me.. eh call me whatever. " he said shrugging not really caring. He'd been called every name under the sun in his life so he didn't think that this guy would bother with a nickname.

    -------------------

Rosalina made a short trip of the journey back to the manor with the two girls. The night hadn't exactly gone to plan which was always a little upsetting but she had work to do and so she would focus on that.

She walked into the manor and the vampires within could sense the heartbeat of the little witch. A few peered out from behind doors wondering if Rosalina had brought them dinner. " No no , she's a guest. Now back to your business. " she told everyone knowing that she need only sy the girl was a guest and she would be unharmed. Everyone knew the rules in her house and they were followed at all times.

" Joshua! " she called out as she went up the stairs with the two girls. He was a traveler and had come and gone many times from the manor and so he ws trusted. He looked to be in his twenties and had blonde hair and smiled at Rosalina. He knew her tendency to take in the strays and thought nothing of it. " Can you take this poor thing into a room please, on her own for now. I expect she will wake up hungry, she's had quite the ordeal. " she said handing Grace over to him and he took her to small room until she would wake. " Be a dear and stay with her till she wakes won't you. " she said before ducking into a room with the little witch.

It was a small room with a made single bed and a small fireplace. She placed the girl on the bed nd then went towards the door and bolted it tight. She wanted to keep the girl safe and in a manor of vampires you couldn't be to safe. She quickly lit a fire and some candles to light the room so the girl would not wake up to darkness. Poor thing was in an awful state and Rosa pulled a blanket over her and then sat on a wooden stool waiting for her to wake.

Lysander looked down as Dominick pinned him to the ground with his leg, the man begged for his life and for death all in the same sentence but Lysander showed no compassion, for he had none other than for the once Mariah.

''Rosalina it is. So you are both others who have lived... a while shall we say?'' He said with a small grin, it was always good to meet other older vampires, fledglings tended to annoy Lysander for their little knowledge and lack of control.
Lysander nodded as Dominick explained to him Rosalina's manor, he wandered how many lived there and for how long.

Lysander tapped his foot against the horse for it to walk forward, he went to another horse as Dominick went to the stakes.
Grabbing it's reigns he walked both the horses over to him and nodded his head to the rider less horse for him to take.
Lysander nodded to his introduction, ''Lysander.'' He said responding with his own name.

His gaze flittered back to Mariah's grave for just a second before he decided that he would go to the manor with him, he had nothing left to stick around for any longer.

It took a long time for her to wake, dreams filling her mind with the memories of what had happened, it was haunting her already and probably would for the rest of her life.
Her eyes parted partially a banging headache hammering away behind her eyes, as she started to move only to groan as her body hurt from head to foot.
Tears stung her eyes as she fought back another onslaught of panic not knowing where she was.
"Where am I?" she squeaked seeing the woman from before her body coiling up to curl back against the wall despite the pain she was in.
    "Where have you taken me?"

For a hunter he was acting rather pathetically but then they were being forced to recruit younger and more ill prepared hunters as they were killing so any of late and they were stretched with these witch trials. " We're no spring chickens much like yourself. " he replied as the man still dangled from his hand.

Lysander had grabbed another horse and brought him over so they could lay the meat across it. He easily threw the hunters body behind the saddle with the same arm that held him. He mounted the horse that Lysander gave him and sat comfortable on the horse. " Well Lysander I'll led the way, if you keep up. " he said as he kicked the horse and started galloping towards the manor.

    --------------------

As the girl began to stir she stood up and poured the girl a drink of water from the jug. As expected, she was frightened and panicked and she was glad that she had chosen to stay with her. " Hush now little witch all will be explained. " she said smiling at her as she moved towards the girl.

She keep an arms length between her and the girl to give her a little space. " Here have a drink, you will feel better. " she offered the mug of water to the girl. " You are in my home. I brought you here because the hunters were attacking do you remember? " she asked in a kindly voice trying to soothe the girl.

" You won't be harmed here. You are my guest. " she tried to reassure her knowing that she was frightened and had been through quite an ordeal already and it must of been overwhelming for her but she would have to get her wits about her if she was going to survive now and the way she was her odds of survival were slim.

''Indeed, that is true.'' Lysander said and turned his eyes to the writhing hunter under Dominick's grasp, he frowned a little, he had met younger and weaker humans with more backbone that this pathetic mortal, a very poor choice for a hunter.

Lysander watched as the man was thrown onto the back of the horse, much to it's annoyance.
He stayed just a moment as Dominick rode off, looking around at the corpses of many around him, the women tied to the stakes as bait for idiotic vampires with no self control, he sighed as he thought that the hunter's plans were working, the vampires numbers had fallen incredibly since the 'witch trials' had begun.

He clicked with his tongue and his horse galloped forward under Lysander's command, he appreciated such obedient things in his life.
He came up behind Dominick and would follow until they reached this curious manor.

Her eyes darted around the room for a way out as the woman started to speak and move, she had to focus to hear her, her own mind to occupied with the flight response, she knew the woman was a vampire and she didn't wish to be one, she hoped that hadn't been why she had kept her there.

The woman held water out to her, she didn't want to move any closer to it but at the sight of it she realized just how painfully dry her mouth was, her whole body seemed to call out for the liquid so hadn't known just how dehydrated she was and it forced her to move quickly to take the glass of water gulping it down with small coughs as she did so her ribs and stomach in agony.

"Why am I a guest here?" she asked after nodding that she remembered, "Why are you helping me I am not one of you?" she kept her voice quiet not wanting to anger the vampire. She longed for home for her mothers comfort but she knew no comfort would come for her.
"Are you going to turn me?..... Please don't turn me"

She smiled as the girl took the water from her. It was a small achievement in gaining some of the girls trust. " Slowly or you will choke. " she said as she mothered her unintentionally. It was in her nature to help those that could not help themselves.

The girl was full of questions and Rosalina laughed when she asked if she was going to turn her. " If I wanted to make you a vampire child I would of done it already. " she smiled offering her a hand to help her up.

" You are my guest because I suspect you have nowhere else to go and it is dangerous for a little witch to be running around on her own. " she said with a smile showing she was genuine in her concern. Vampires and witches usually kept to themselves but given the circumstances Rosalina felt it was safer if they all looked out for one another to save them both from extinction.

    -----------------------

Dominick rode through the forest quite easily, guiding the horse easily through the thick forest. Occasionally poking the whimpering man behind man. " How I do love mood music. " he laughed at the mans cries looking forward to bringing him to the manor. Rosalina did have that one rule bout not playing with your food but it wasn't everyday they brought back a hunter.

Approaching the manor he slowed the horse and hopped off. He grabbed the ropes that were tied around the man and pulled him from the horse carrying him by the rope so his body faced the ground and he swung him back and fourth.

" Well Rosa would normally have all this spill about rules and what not. Just don't bite anyone who lives here, do what Rosa says and try to get along and you won't see Rosa's bad side. " he laughed with a glint in his eye at the thought of Rosa's bad side. It often proved entertaining as long as you were on the right side that was.

" Come on I'll give you the grand tour. " he said indicating towards the house and walking ahead of him and into the house making his way toward the staircase to go upstairs.

    --------------------

Green eyes encased with red shot open and looked around the area darting from side to side. She didn't know where she was, she had never been in such a place before. It looked different to anything she had seen, in fact it was all so bizarre, it smelled stronger and the sounds, so many sounds. She sat up expecting pain but she felt fine, better then fine if only she could make all the noises stop, it was overwhelming.

Slipping out of the bed she got this sickly sweet smell coming from her clothes. She looked down at her dress and found that it had been torn and bloody in places yet she had no injuries. " Oh my. " she said finding herself alone with the room.

Confused and a little disorientated she tried to open the door and thought it might be locked but it opened freely. As she stepped into the corridor she was hit by sounds and smells and her senses were overwhelming her and she felt like her mind couldn't process it all.

It was then she could pick up on only one sound. A beat and all logical thought was eliminated as she suddenly moved at a speed she didn't even realise towards the beat as every vein in her body burned and urged her forward to what would cure her of the thirst.

Lysander memorised the route with ease as he followed behind, he smiled as Dominick teased the food, Lysander did not care for his story, for all he knew he could have been one of them who captured and tortured Mariah and he deserved this cruel fate that was being dealt to him.

As they approached the manor, Lysander looked around, it was a beautiful place.
He hopped off his horse and listened to Dominick explain the rules, it would take some getting used to on Lysander's part to follow orders but if he did not grow accustomed to it he would leave without a second thought and continue on how he was before.
''Very well, do you have stables?'' He asked as he tied the two horses to a nearby tree, he took care of things that benefited him and he would have them live in comfort.

Lysander followed suit and went in through the manor doors, looking around he took it all in, the sights, the smells, every detail. The heart beats of the few in and out of the building sounding loud in his ears.
''How many of you are here?'' He asked as he began to make the steps up with a graceful manner about him.

He stopped mid step and looked up to hear the footsteps of the newly turned vampire, ''I think that little one is after your food'' He said with a slight grin to Dominick.

Lysander sighed and took the still writhing body from Dominick, holding him up by the throat and making him see her coming for him ''I have little patience for fledglings, but the blood of a hunter would make a good meal.'' He said to him in a calm tone, his face straight.
